The 2010 Telethon was launched for the first time with a pre- cursor event, a fun run. The objective of this activity was to increase the interest and participation of the public in the Telethon. This event was held under the theme “Kouwi Sent Lisi....for a Healthy Heart”. The National Telethon was held on April 25th 2010 at the Samaans Park. This was the Foundation’s Seventh Annual Telethon. The telethon’s target was $250,000.00. The total amount contributed and pledged to date inclusive now stands at approximately EC $186,218.00. Pledges and contributions were received from twenty-three (23) companies/corporations, two (2) Non- Governmental Organizations and nine (9) schools. The new feature of the celebrity panel which paralleled the main stage was an exceptional feature to this year’s event and maximized the involvement of the public and private sector personalities.
March 14 2010: ‘Kouwi Sent Lisi - For a Healthy Heart’.
The National Community Foundation (NCF) launched its 2010 Telethon with a healthy start, a “Fun-Run-Walk” held on March 14.
The event, which was backed by several government ministries, corporate donors and media houses, will be held under the theme Kouwi Sent Lisi - For a Healthy Heart. This fun run was a collaborative venture with the Heart Lung and Blood Foundation and RISE (St. Lucia) Inc.
The “Fun-Run-Walk” started at the Caribbean Cinemas compound at Union and continued along the road towards Babonneau, turned into Grande Riviere, continued into the road behind LIME at Corinth, then to the intersection at the Daher building and back on to the highway to return to the Mega J/Caribbean Cinemas compounds at Choc.
The event culminated with the hosting of a health fair for all participants with free tests for cholesterol, blood sugar, body mass index and free snacks. This sporting event was sponsored by Consolidated Foods Ltd, Ministry of Social Transformation, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Agriculture, Mayers Printing, 1st National Bank, Brydens and Partners Ltd., Digicel, Studio 99, MP Manufacturing, Radio 100, DBS, VOICE, RSL, WAVE and NTN/GIS.
December 14 2009: St Jude’s Fundraiser
Following the devastation caused at the St Jude’s hospital in September 2009, the National Community Foundation (NCF) set out to assist with the rebuilding efforts. It hosted a radio telethon and subsequently a fundraising show on December 14, 2009. The show featured performances from local artists including Kakal, Minelle and Shayne Ross, with Che Campeche as the main act.
Consequently, on Thursday January 18 2010, the NCF presented a cheque of $6,000.00 to the chairman of the Board of the St Jude hospital, Mr Percival Mc Donald, to assist with rebuilding efforts.
The NCF was assisted by a long list of private sector, community and individual partners, who made the donation possible.
